CAS Reflection #4: Learning Outcome 2 S

Quarantine summer was a very eventful one. I was able to pick up some skills that could help me through the entirety of my life. The most notable being, construction. Before Covid-19, we hired a guy to build the house for us. They were able to construct the shell of the house, but when Covid hit, we paused construction for a couple of weeks. At that time, we were stacking materials that we needed to build the inside of the house. We finally had everything we needed so we began to work. We felt as if we didn't need to spend the extra money on a worker, so we did it ourselves. I personally had never done construction before, but my uncle Joe had so he was showing me how to work everything. We began with the room's layout, which requires us to use the nail gun and nail the wood pieces together, and to the floor and walls. Honestly, it was very challenging at first, the kickback the gun had was a lot more than I had anticipated, but after a while, I was able to get the hang of it.

CAS Reflection #3: Learning Outcome 1 S

This same summer, my cousin had been increasing the horsepower in one of his cars, a 1998 Camaro SS. When you increase the hp(horsepower) in a car, the amount of torque will offset the transmission, causing it to break and requiring one that would be able to handle that much power. At the time he has a 4l60e which comes in the base model for those cars. He then upgraded to a 4l70 which was converted to a 4l80. This transmission would be able to handle all the hp and much more. The size of the transmission in comparison to the car was unbelievable. The car is considered a 2 door coupe sports car, so it was very tiny only weighing around 3000 pounds. The transmission relative to the size of the car, putting it in was a difficult challenge. My cousin and I are two relatively big men, fitting under that car were hard, and having to maneuver under it became an issue. CAS Reflection #2: Learning Outcome 1 S

I sold my last project truck since my mom thought it was unreliable, so after 1 day on the market we sold it. We got 2,500. That same day, I had been looking to see if there was anything that caught my attention or something more reliable and newer. My cousin was also helping search for one, and after a little while he had found one and we were off to go see it. The drive was around 45 minutes, which wasn't bad since we had gone on longer trips to find trucks. The guy got there, and off the bat, the truck was making noises. Most older trucks make noise since they are older, but this noise was something the required us to take apart the engine so we had to pass on that truck. As much as it sucked, it just wasn't going to be right to sell a problem and then buy another. We got back home and we were certain we weren't going to find a truck that day. CAS Reflection #1: Leaning Outcome 4 S

     This summer, I was blessed enough to be able to buy a project truck. This had always been my dream truck ever since I was little. My dad had a similar style of a truck when years ago, and when I saw this one on the market, I knew it was finally time to buy it. The truck was relatively cheap, it was $1,600. It had a bad motor and didn't want to stay on. It would overheat, and wouldn't turn on after. But on the outside, there was around $1,200 of cosmetics done to it, so I knew this was the one. We went 30 minutes out of my house and went to go view the truck. It was in relatively good shape, it had some paint damage to it, and some spots that need to be buffed, but other than that, it was worth the price. We tried to negotiate, to see if there was anyway since it had a bad motor if we could drop to at least 1200, he wouldn't budge. We accepted it and took it home.
